Consolidated Hallmark Insurance: South-South Brokers’ Meet Opens New Chapter for Insurance Growth

L-R: Mr. Sorochi Ihekire, Regional Manager, Hallmark HMO; Mr. Rowland Chidiebere Nwosu (ED l, Operations, Sonel Insurance Brokers; Mrs. Amaka Ogbediago, South South Area Committee NCRIB; Mrs. Mary Adeyanju, MD/CEO, Consolidated Hallmark Insurance Limited; Pastor Joseph Olayeni, MD/CEO Megalink Insurance Brokers; Mrs. Patience Ugboajah, ED, Operations, CHI Life Assurance Limited at the NCRIB Broker’s Meet recently held in the South South region. Nigeria.

Consolidated Hallmark Insurance Limited (CHI), a subsidiary of Consolidated Hallmark Holdings Plc proudly sponsored insurance professionals and stakeholders in Port Harcourt for the South-South Brokers’ Professional Evening, in conjunction with the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), South-South Committee. The theme was “Recapitalization: Aftermath and the Next Phase of Growth.”

As Nigeria’s insurance industry moves beyond the recapitalization exercise, attention is increasingly shifting from meeting capital requirements to what comes next: how the industry can translate stronger balance sheets into meaningful growth, deeper market penetration and greater value for policyholders.

The Professional Brokers’ Meet provided a platform for insurers and brokers to explore how recapitalization can drive sustainable growth, stronger partnerships and greater insurance penetration.

Opening the event, the Chairman of the NCRIB South-South Committee. Mrs. Amaka Ogebedaigo welcomed members of the brokerage community and other industry stakeholders, setting the tone for an evening focused on collaboration, reflection and the road ahead.

The conversation continued with the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Consolidated Hallmark Insurance Limited, Mrs. Mary Adeyanju, who addressed participants on the implications of the industry’s changing landscape and the need for stakeholders to think beyond recapitalization.

“Recapitalization has changed the conversation in our industry. It has moved us beyond the question of survival to a more important question, what are we going to do with the stronger industry we have built? At Consolidated Hallmark, our answer is very clear. We intend to grow, We intend to innovate. We intend to create greater values for our customers. And importantly, we intend to create even greater value for our broker partners”.

With approximately 80 per cent of CHI’s business coming through professional brokers, she stressed that the brokers contribution remains central to the company’s ability to create sustainable value and deepen insurance penetration.

Mrs. Adeyanju reaffirmed that Consolidated Hallmark Insurance has maintained a strong financial position.

“As at July 2026, our Shareholders’ Funds stood at N61 billion, Total Assets of CHI is N91.9 billion. Our Insurance Revenue as at the end of July is N28.4 billion but as I speak N33.6 billion, Profit Before Tax as at Q2 is N27.9 billion. Profit After Tax as at Q2 is N27.4 billion, and claims paid from January to date is N9.3 billion. Our  Surplus of Assets over liability is N47.8 billion and a Solvency Margin is standing at N35.6 billion”.

However, Mrs. Adeyanju stressed that the company’s financial gains represent more than numbers but provide the capacity and resilience to build a stronger future. She noted that recapitalization must translate into better service, faster claims settlement, deeper market penetration, stronger broker partnerships, digital innovation and greater public confidence in insurance.

She also highlighted technology as a key driver of this transformation, noting that CHI is investing in digital solutions to make insurance simpler, faster and more accessible. Among these initiatives is the free API-enabled Marine Insurance Portal for seamless certificate generation, Curacel for faster motor inspections and claims processing, and TrustFort, an enterprise platform nearing deployment to improve operational efficiency. CHI is also redesigning its website to deliver a seamless digital experience from policy purchase to claims.

She concluded that recapitalization should not be viewed as the end of a regulatory exercise, but as the beginning of a bigger opportunity.

The meet also featured remarks from the Executive Director, CHI Life Assurance, Mrs. Patience Ugboajah, who spoke on behalf of the Managing Director of CHI Life Assurance, Mr. Tope Ilesanmi highlighting the importance of driving the business digitally, partnership and collective action as the industry enters its next phase.

“Our focus on the group is to do retail. Whilst we got our license last year we had an official launch in October of the same year. Prior to doing the launch, we had gotten approval for a couple of some retail products. We are in partnership with some brokers to develop their retail space with a top product being Rent Secure”.

A key feature of the meet was a paper on NIRA, delivered by the Immediate Past Chairman of the NCRIB South-South Committee, Mrs. Awele. A. Ayetuoma. The presentation provided another dimension to the meet’s discussions, encouraging participants to consider emerging developments and their implications for the industry’s future.

“This particular recapitalization exercise is different from the previous ones because it is backed by law. NIRA set out to protect policy holders as there is a particular percentage that the underwriters are to contribute to the insurance policy fund which is 0.25% of their net premium in the event that an insurer becomes insolvent and unable to pay claims”.

Beyond the presentations, the Brokers’ Meet provided an opportunity for meaningful engagement, highlighting the importance of strong insurer-broker relationships in advancing the industry.

The discussions underscored that the next phase of Nigeria’s insurance sector will require more than capital. It will demand innovation, trust, collaboration and a commitment to better service delivery.

The event therefore served as more than a networking platform. It offered an opportunity to look beyond recapitalization and focus on the bigger question of how the industry can achieve sustainable growth and greater relevance to Nigerians.
